Farm Manager - Carlistle
Rooney Farms owns and operates a range of farming properties throughout Canterbury and North Otago. This includes sheep, beef, deer, dairy and arable interests.
We are looking for a farm manager with a particular skill set to run this specialist velvet and trophy operation with the assistance of a full time shepherd.
Carlisle consists of just under 300ha of flat to rolling country 5 minutes from Waimate. It is Rooney Farms main velveting unit with approximately 1300 stags velveted as well as a portion of trade cattle. Replacement stags are sourced internally as well as externally, and older stags are supplied to other Rooney properties for trophies and velveting. In addition to the stags, there are a small number of trade cattle. The property has sound infrastructure including a near new deer shed built specifically for velveting.
The successful applicant will ideally have:
A passion for, and experience with, deer.
Extremely high animal welfare standards.
Great pasture management skills and attention to detail – an absolute must in this intensive system.
Strong planning and organisation skills as well as the ability to use technology (FarmIQ, Excel, Outlook and Farmax would be advantageous).
Great communication skills and an ability to build strong working relationships.
